Portion Control is a phrase that you will hear often when you want to lose weight. Understanding why you need to use portion control to lose weight means you need to understand the food volumes involved in a diet sized portion rather than a weight maintenance portion of food.  Losing weight by controlling the size of portions of food is a definitive method of dieting and weight loss. Diet Plate was created to mimic the body's natural calorific requirements from specific food groups; not only by controlling the portion sizes, but defining the calories contained within the food groups in a diet sized portion.

This means that no food group is off the menu - a slimmer can choose whatever food they like, cooked in the way the recipe demands. It does not matter what type of food you prefer because regardless of where you live in the world, there are just 5 food groups. You can have Moroccan Chicken on a Monday or Lasagne on Tuesday and maybe enjoy a typical roast beef dinner on Sunday. Nothing is off the menu. You can even have your favourite curry or fish and chips on the Diet Plate as long as you practice portion control.

Portion control is not difficult and cutting down on portion sizes needn't make you feel you are denying yourself. The idea of the Diet Plate is that you use the remaining space on the portion plate to fill with free vegetables and salad, so by the very design of the plate, the calories are adjusted to fit in with a weight loss plan that really works.

If you have been used to larger portions it may take 3 or 4 days to get them under control, but once you do, using the Diet Plate becomes second nature to you and you start to practice portion control quite naturally. As you start to understand that the volumes of food make a difference, you start to appreciate the extra calories that you are saving as a result. This is all good as it means that you are incorporating portion control into your everyday life and because of that you will most definitely experience a change in your attitude and behaviour towards food.

Portion control is the most effective way to stop yourself from getting trapped in the cycle of losing weight and putting it back on. Eat what you love to cook and lose weight while you do so. Re-balance your plate according to the Diet Plate calibrations 'it counts the calories so you don't have to' and enjoy a healthier diet and improved blood sugars and general health too.

A Healthy Pace

The human body adapts well to gaining weight and losing weight but to avoid loose skin it is much better to do it slowly and give the cells time to regenerate. Losing weight too fast, for instance, more than 3 lbs a week, is great for motivation but not so great for your skin to recover in time. So think portion control with your weight loss too and you won't go far wrong.

Don't get drawn in to thinking you are failing on your diet if you are only losing 1/2 lb - 1 lb in a week, in volume terms a pound of fat looks like a bag of sugar, which is why when you lose 5lbs you notice the difference on your waistline so quickly. Weight loss occurs all over the body at the same time, you might just lose a few inches off your hips but you could have also lost a few on your back where you can't see it.

Also, if you are training or attending a gym at the same time, you could be building lean muscle mass which would account for your body shrinking while your weight remains the same.
