National Diabetes Audit Mortality Analysis PDF Print E-mail

The first ever National Diabetes Audit Mortality Analysis was released today. It is estimated that there are between 2.1 and 2.4 million Diabetes sufferers in England alone. It is also believed that one third of Diabetes sufferers in the country are unaware of their condition!

  • It is further estimated that annually between 70,000 and 75,000 people die as a direct result of suffering from Diabetes. As well as an approximate further 24,000 who were not included in the Audit.
  • Depending on geographic location, the number of deaths per 100,000, that result from Diabetes, varies from 1,852 to 2,351 for Type 1 Diabetes. With a further 1,246 to 1,668 every 100,000 for Type 2 Diabetes.
  • The study further goes on to say that a third of the people dying of Diabetes are doing so because of poor management of their conditions.

In 2004 a set of independent clinical trials was undertaken. 133 randomly assigned sufferers of Type 2 Diabetes, (including 55 taking insulin) were monitored for 6 months. The end results were astonishing. 17% of the patients in the group using the Diet Plate lost 5%of their total body weight, compared with the 4.5% in the control group making use of standard Diabetic Management Care.
